This service is carried out by a fully trained and qualified fitter who personally visits women in their own homes, nursing homes, retirement villages etc.
After 4 months of researching the possibilities of setting up such a service, Mobile Prosthetic Services was established in July, 2006 as the first home prosthesis fitting service in the Sydney Metro area for women who have had breast cancer surgery. Working as a fully trained and qualified lingerie and prosthesis fitter for many years at David Jones, I recognised a need for a more convenient and personalised type of service.
Following breast surgery many women find it difficult to make their way to a store to be fitted with a breast prosthesis. The reasons vary from a lack of confidence in venturing out, to feeling unwell due to chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment.
During my time in retail I met many breast cancer clients of all ages, from a young 27 year old Mum with a 3 month old baby; a woman in a wheelchair with MS and an elderly lady with dementia who was accompanied by her husband. All these women and many more now have the option of being fitted for their breast prosthesis in the comfort and privacy of their own home.
The goal of the service is to reach all women who have undergone breast cancer surgery, whether that surgery was recent (a few months ago) or 5, 10 or 15 years ago.
In summary, our philosophy is ‘to provide a home prosthesis fitting service by supplying high quality products in a caring, professional manner with the customer’s needs our highest priority along with the assurance of complete confidentiality’.
